The Lead Love Interest Effect

Aaaaand it's Monday once more. Bleh. What is it about Monday's anyway? I mean, why do they suck so much? I guess it's all in our mindset, but I mean, who's cheery as a buttercup about weekends ending and having to go back to the ho hum of working? Moving on, though, did you all have a cheery Father's day? I know I did, but I can't help shake the feeling that we didn't give our Dad the best Father's Day we could have, but I mean, he did spend the day watching futbol, which in his book is a good way to spend a day, so maybe I shouldn't feel too badly. Speaking of, the World Cup is officially on! I always think my house is a weirdly fun place during the World Cup. It's just so fun to see how into each of the matches my family gets! Which, by the way, Costa Rica beat Uruguay in the biggest upset of the Cup so far! Eek! I'm so happy about it! Seeing as Guatemala didn't make it (don't think they ever have, actually) I've got to root for my fellow Central American countries! I'm hoping they somehow miraculously make it all the way to the final match, but deep down I know they don't have a chance in snot! Anyway, want to know how I spent my weekend, other than celebrating my pops and talking about futbol? I watched The Holiday. Twice. Ya know, the adorable heart touching movie starring Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz? I just love it. Also, it's crazy how casting a guy as the lead love interest somehow makes him instantly attractive. I'm thinking Jude Law specifically here. I never really got the attraction with him to be honest. In fact, I kind of think he's rather unattractive, but in The Holiday, as the lead male role? I'm swooooooning. Call it the Lead-Love-Interest-Effect. Also? England. I must go. It's been one of my deepest wishes since I was 15. Sigh. Someone take me.

These are a pair of the new sunnies I picked up in Vegas and, guys, I love them! So much. They're so 50s chic! Also? I picked up this maxi at h&m during the Christmas season and I haven't worn it nearly enough so I broke it out again! I'm so glad I did, there's nothing more perfect than a maxi in the summer! Especially in a fun bright color! Also, I know it's cheesy, but I love pairing pink and red so I finished up the look with this pink stone pendant. Which, funny story, whenever I wear my cheepo Forever 21 jewelry, whether it's my necklaces or rings, I'm always stunned by how many people compliment them and try to guess at what kind of stone they might be. Needless to say, they're always stunned when I tell them they're not actually made of any sort of real stone and that I got 'em for like 3 bucks. Heehee. ;) Oh, Forever 21, how I love thee! ;) Also, after watching The Holiday I sort of wish my future babies would speak English with a British accent! There's nothing cuter than a baby with a British accent, well, besides a Spanish speaking baby. Anyway, I'm done rambling. :)

Much love!

HBD to my Best Friend!

Today is my best friend's birthday! I chose to share this photo of us because it describes our relationship to the T. Goofing around, laughing our butts silly, and her carrying me on her shoulders simply because I'm the little sister. ;) On this most special of days I just want to express to this sissy of mine how much I love and appreciate her. She is my biggest supporter and a constant example to me of selfless service! The things she does for our family are never ending! There is this moment, that I can remember so clearly, that I feel was the defining moment of our relationship. It was my first day of Kindergarten, we hadn't been in the States long, and I was more nervous and shaky than a fish out of water. As we boarded the bus, my sister's cool "big kid" (second grade) friends rushed over to invite her to sit with them. In reality this moment couldn't have lasted longer than a couple of seconds, but to little 5 year old me, it felt like an eternity. That moment when they asked her to sit with them my little heart immediately fell and started to resign itself to the fact that I would have to sit by myself and calm my own little racing heart. Without even a moment's hesitancy, though, my sister quickly turned them down, grabbed my hand, and led me over to a seat for the two of us. This moment was so defining for me because it taught me that no matter what, my sister would always be there to sit by me, whether it was on a bus on the first day of school or in any situation in life. Not because she felt like she had to, or because she felt like she needed to, but because she wanted to. Now, I know I'm totally going to be ripping off "In Her Shoes" with this but I love that, in the movie, this is their sister poem! So, even though, you hate this movie, sissy, this one's for you!

I carry your heart with me (I carry it in
my heart) I am never without it (anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want
no world (for beautiful, you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)

Happy birthday best friend!

50 Shades of Blue

Wanna know a book I never read? 50 Shades of Gray. I just never got pulled into the hype, and to be quite honest, and feel free to call me a prude for saying this, but I just thought it seemed kind of, well, filthy, for lack of a better word. It just wasn't me cup o' tee. Well, that, and I'm just a total snob and I tend to steer away from things that get way hyped up and popular. I know, I know, what a snob I am. I know what you're all thinking, "well, what about The Fault in Our Stars, then Allexis? Huh? Huh? You loved that!" Here is my reasoning, I've liked it since it first came out two years ago, i.e. before it was cool. Wow. Did that just come out as lame and pretentious as I think it did? Yep. I sound like a total butt head. I'm a butt head. Anyway, aside from the fact that I'm a butt head, remember how I mentioned last post that I'm not a huge fan of the summer time? Well, I just remembered another reason it's not my favoritest (yes, I just used a non-existent word. Apparently I'm also a butt head with improper grammar;) of seasons is sandals. Although, I think sandals are crazy adorable, I just can't get over the fact that it's impossible to go a day wearing sandals without coming home to find that the soles of my feet are blacker than nose hairs. I might as well be walking around barefoot. Which, actually, I'd strangely kind of prefer. :)

Now that we've established that I'm a summer hating, stuck up, butt head, let's get onto some outfit chit chat. ;) My awesome pawsome sissy snapped these photos for me while we were in Vegas. She da best! Anyway, I wore this look when we went out shopping and I loved it! I thought layering my blue mirrored aviators with my blue stone necklace and blue maxi skirt would be a super fun/simple look! Not to mention that wearing a breezy maxi was a beyond genius idea because it kept me nice and cool in the 100+ degree Vegas weather! :) Also, messy fish tail braids, my dudes! Dey da best! My only regret is that my hair is so dark you can hardly even see the braid, alls wells. Ce la vie! :)

Much love!

I'll Keep You My Dirty Little Secret

I'm baaaaaaaaack! And it feels so good! I love taking short trips, and the newness and break that they offer but nothing feels quite like home! I had such a fab time celebratin' the birth of my sissy and how awesome she is, though! No one belts songs out in the car quite like us. ;) Do you all want in on a little well kept secret of mine, though? This secret is so well kept in fact, that even I forget about it every year. Ready for this? I hate summer. Yep, your eyes are not deceiving you. You read that right, I hate summer. The heat makes me cranky. All the time. My tolerance for heat is about .5 seconds and I hate constantly being thirsty. Also? I hate that since it's so warm outside everyone cranks up their AC so all buildings feel unbearingly cold, which makes dressing for summer impossible because wearing a sweater at all times becomes a must. Ok, now I'm just being whiny. I guess I don't really hate summer, I just hate being hot. I'm such a baby. I mean, I do LOVE the long nights and bright early mornings!

I had the worst shopping luck in Vegas, you guys. Every time I found a pair of shoes for a stellar price, they'd be sold out in my size. Perfect pair of red flats? Only available in a size 5. Perfect pair of nude colored STEVE MADDEN heeled sandals (for $30!!!)? Only available in a size 8! Find the perfect Father's Day present for my dad? Only available in a size too small or a size too big. The odds were not in my favor! I guess the universe was trying to get me to stick to my shopping challenge, which I really only kept for the first three months of the year. Whoops. I'm awful. I was able to snag one pair of shoes, a few pairs of sunnies, and an awesome Darth Vader tee, though! I can't wait to rock them all! :) Also, I'm SO loving crisp whites this summer! This time, I wanted to pair my whites with a pop of color so I went with this pair of neon blue heels that I picked up at h&m last summer! Also, I love the look of clean simple button ups with relaxed baggy boyfriend shorts!

Much love!

The Color of Sunshine

Guys, my skin is so yellow I might as well just be a straight up banana. Instead of, "I'm blue, if I were green I would die." it's, "I'm yellow, if I were normal colored I would die." It's cool, though, yellow is a happy color, so we'll just say that my yellow skin is the color of sunshine. ;) That sounds a lot better than I'm the color of a yellow crayola crayon. ;) Anyway, how are all of your Monday's? Mine was pretty stellar, thank you very much. You all know why! Vacation! Yay! Heavens knows I was in MAJOR need of a little R&R! MmmmMmmm. Too bad today is my last day. I don't want to come back, guys! Boooo! Working is the bane of my existence. ;) Also, I already have a million and one things to do as soon as I get back. Of course. Sigh. Oh well. Anyway, this is my last post featuring the high school art show! This was the music room that was revamped with some pretty sick graffiti style wall art.

Today's post is just going to be super boring, super short, and super lame. Sorry. Can you blame a girl, though? I mean, I'm on pause from real life at the mo and I just literally cannot think of a single interesting thing to say. Will you all forgive me? Also, sequins are cool...does that suffice in the outfit chit chat department? I hope so. :)

Much Love!
