Happiest Place on Earth

Over the weekend I stored up some really nice stories that I wanted to share with you all, and they were some really good ones too, but now I can't remember any of them. Flim Flam. (That's a new catch phrase my sister came up with that means gosh dang;) Anyway, yeah...I don't know what to say to you all today. Other than...did you know that we all have little eye bugs living on our eyelashes?! Gross, right? You all definitely needed to know that. Anyway, wanna know where these photos were shot? I bet you'd never guess if I asked you to. They were taken at the DMV. Yep, that's right, I did a photo shoot at ma work place, the happiest place on Earth. ;) Don't we all just love the DMV? Heehee. In all seriousness, though, I really actually don't mind working there. I mean, the office is located right, and I mean RIGHT, at the edge of the mountain (which is why these photos are possible) and the building has ginormous windows so I get to look at the mountainside all day long and see all the beautiful deer families (I know that's not the technical term for them) grazing!

I've already mentioned various times my love for maxi skirts in the Fall but another love of mine in the Fall is re-purposing maxi DRESSES. My favorite way to re-purpose a maxi dress is by throwing a tee over it, tying a loose knot on it, and adding some simple accessories. It's such an easy way to throw together a relaxed outfit that was completely lazy in the making but doesn't look lazy. It's completely amazing and if you're looking for different ways to wear your closet classics then this is definitely a look you need to try! The dress I'm wearing above is actually a dress I bought last holiday season so it's been sold out for a while but I'll link some similarly fab options below! Also, I love how "whimsical-desert-wanderer" these photos turned out! Raquel really knows how to work her magic! As I always say, if you're in need of photos she is definitely another fabulous choice for you all to get in touch with!

Much love!

I Wish I Was a Baller

Anyone know that one "I Wish" rap song? I'm not usually a rap type of gal, at ALL but I've heard this song around. Not really sure when or where, but I've heard it. Anyway, the lyrics totally describe how I feel about my height in these photos, cuuuuz I love the photos, because they turned out totally rad thanks to ma besties wicked talent, but...

"I wish I was a little bit taller
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl (boy in my case) who looked good
I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
and a six four Impala
I wish I was like six foot nine (five ten would be good;)
So I can get with Leoshi"

I totally don't even know what half those lyrics are talkin' about but all that jazz bout bein' taller and havin' a boy who looked good? Yeah, I wants that. Puhlease and thank you. I know I should be happy with my 5'3 frame and all that good yippy stuff, but sometimes I just can't help wishing I had some nice loooooooong legs! Any shorties know what I mean? Anyone, ja feel me? First, jeans would actually fit and I wouldn't have to constantly go up to the register to ask if they carry a zero petite (no one ever does) only to be told to check online. Don't get me wrong, I love online shopping, but when it comes to jeans I just don't want to have to wait for them to come to me. Also, when I'm forced into buying regular jeans because I don't have the patience to order petite jeans I always end up having to roll them or just make peace with the extra bit of bunched up jean at the ankles from my lack of legs to properly fill them. Or, when the knees get all crinkled, loose, and baggy from my knees making indents on a part of the jeans that would normally be filled with a thigh rather than a knee on a regular person? Have any of my fellow shorties noticed this? #firstworldproblems? Yep. My dumb rant is over. World, forgive my vain desires! I is a bad Winky! (someone please tell me they understand that Harry Potter reference!)

You guys, I am in LOVE with this t-shirt. I know, I know, you're all thinking, "Allexis. It's just a t-shirt." Buuuut, it's not. Guys, it's so soft and the fit is PERFECT! It's got that long but not too long length, that loose but not too loose look, and the rolled sleeves hit at the PERFECT spot! It instantly makes you look SUPER buff and also super bad a**. When I saw this t-shirt online I knew I HAD to have it, I could just tell that it was going to have that perfect boyfriend fit...and it DID. I knew I would love it so much that I actually got it in a two pack and got one in black! Also, somedays it's just allllls about the super laid back outfits. Awesome slimming black jeans, comfy plain white tee, wicked/simple accesories. Amen, Hallelu.

Much love!

Keepin' it as Simple as a Pimple

Nationality has been on my mind a lot lately. For some heart breaking political reasons, which I won't get into now, as I'm not sure this is the time or place, but also for some more simplistic outward reasons as well. The chief of which being the fact that I'm often confused for being a variety of different nationalities. Some I can understand and others not so much. I've gotten, Brazilian, Asian, Islander, Arabic, Colombian, etc. I usually enjoy hearing people's guesses as to where I'm from and then let it pass from my mind. In fact, just the other day one of my female co-workers stopped me in the middle of the hall and demanded to see my eyes. Obviously I let her, although, I was slightly tempted to say, "No, weirdo. Chu wanna look at my eyes fo?" Anyway, after staring me down for a few seconds she addressed me thus, "why do you look Asian today?" Obviously I had no answer to this because, um, how should I know why I happen to look Asian to her? Anyway, she then told me it must be my makeup, to which I just said sure, because um, my makeup looked exactly the same that day as it does every other day. Anyhow, her comment stuck with me, not because it's I think the third or fourth time someone has told me I look Asian, but because it got me to wondering what I actually look like to other people. I mean, when I look in the mirror I just see me, but what is everybody else seeing that they think I'm Brazilian, Asian, or Arabic? Tis cray. Anyway, do you guys ever forget what you even look like, or is that just me? Because I forget what my face looks like on a regular basis, so when I happen to pass my reflection I'm like, "Whoa. So that's what I look like. I forgot. Interesssssting. I have a face." Weird, I know. Also, I'm told, by my sister anyway, that I make the most crazy (and I'm pretty sure downright ugly at times) expressions. I love me some good and crazy facial expressions, though, so I have no shame in contorting my face into beastly forms. ;) Tis fun!

For this look today I decided to keep it uber simple and relaxed. Some days just call for baby soft boyfriend tees and perfectly worn in torn boyfriend jeans, ja feel? I think the key to simple looks, though, is spicing them up with fun accessories. I decided to spruce this look up with this fun bag, and a little jewelry metal mixing with my rose gold watch and spiked silver bracelet. Also, loafers, dudes. Staple piece to any comfy look.

Much love!

P.S.
Check out Rachel's photography website. This girl is mega talented and UBER nice! If you're in the Utah area and in need of photos, hit her up!

50 Shades of Blue

Wanna know a book I never read? 50 Shades of Gray. I just never got pulled into the hype, and to be quite honest, and feel free to call me a prude for saying this, but I just thought it seemed kind of, well, filthy, for lack of a better word. It just wasn't me cup o' tee. Well, that, and I'm just a total snob and I tend to steer away from things that get way hyped up and popular. I know, I know, what a snob I am. I know what you're all thinking, "well, what about The Fault in Our Stars, then Allexis? Huh? Huh? You loved that!" Here is my reasoning, I've liked it since it first came out two years ago, i.e. before it was cool. Wow. Did that just come out as lame and pretentious as I think it did? Yep. I sound like a total butt head. I'm a butt head. Anyway, aside from the fact that I'm a butt head, remember how I mentioned last post that I'm not a huge fan of the summer time? Well, I just remembered another reason it's not my favoritest (yes, I just used a non-existent word. Apparently I'm also a butt head with improper grammar;) of seasons is sandals. Although, I think sandals are crazy adorable, I just can't get over the fact that it's impossible to go a day wearing sandals without coming home to find that the soles of my feet are blacker than nose hairs. I might as well be walking around barefoot. Which, actually, I'd strangely kind of prefer. :)

Now that we've established that I'm a summer hating, stuck up, butt head, let's get onto some outfit chit chat. ;) My awesome pawsome sissy snapped these photos for me while we were in Vegas. She da best! Anyway, I wore this look when we went out shopping and I loved it! I thought layering my blue mirrored aviators with my blue stone necklace and blue maxi skirt would be a super fun/simple look! Not to mention that wearing a breezy maxi was a beyond genius idea because it kept me nice and cool in the 100+ degree Vegas weather! :) Also, messy fish tail braids, my dudes! Dey da best! My only regret is that my hair is so dark you can hardly even see the braid, alls wells. Ce la vie! :)

Much love!

The Color of Sunshine

Guys, my skin is so yellow I might as well just be a straight up banana. Instead of, "I'm blue, if I were green I would die." it's, "I'm yellow, if I were normal colored I would die." It's cool, though, yellow is a happy color, so we'll just say that my yellow skin is the color of sunshine. ;) That sounds a lot better than I'm the color of a yellow crayola crayon. ;) Anyway, how are all of your Monday's? Mine was pretty stellar, thank you very much. You all know why! Vacation! Yay! Heavens knows I was in MAJOR need of a little R&R! MmmmMmmm. Too bad today is my last day. I don't want to come back, guys! Boooo! Working is the bane of my existence. ;) Also, I already have a million and one things to do as soon as I get back. Of course. Sigh. Oh well. Anyway, this is my last post featuring the high school art show! This was the music room that was revamped with some pretty sick graffiti style wall art.

Today's post is just going to be super boring, super short, and super lame. Sorry. Can you blame a girl, though? I mean, I'm on pause from real life at the mo and I just literally cannot think of a single interesting thing to say. Will you all forgive me? Also, sequins are cool...does that suffice in the outfit chit chat department? I hope so. :)

Much Love!

Ain't That a Kick in the Head?

You guys, sometimes I hate myself...for concocting such gosh awful workouts that leave my poor lil' leggies sore for dayssssssss. I guess I'm just sadistic that way. ;) Also, I don't really feel like talking to you all today. Ha, just kidding. Well, kind of. Really, I just want to get straight to watching Awkward, and since I missed it when it aired, I have to watch it online...on my laptop...which I can't do while I'm typing. So you see my dilemma. ;) But really, I do love you all and appreciate you guys always stopping by to this little old space o' mine, so I'll do my best to get over my couch potato tendencies and write you all a decent post. How's this for decent, wanna hear a funny story? I didn't understand the term, "hump day" till I was about 20 or so. In other words, up until two years ago. Yep. True story. I first started hearing the term in high school when I'd listen to morning talk radio (Only because there was nothing else on. I hate talk radio. Especially of the morning variety.) on the way to school. Anyway, I started noticing that every Wednesday they'd say "happy hump day". Back then, my naive mind jumped straight to the gutter and understood happy hump day to mean something completely inappropriate. Anyway, as you can imagine, teenage me was completely appalled that they would say something so disgusting on the radio. It wasn't until I was about 20 or so that I read somewhere what "hump day" actually meant, "The middle of the work week (Wednesday); used in the context of climbing the proverbial hill of a tough week", according to Urban Dictionary. ;)  Anyway, yeah, that was my teenage rock (as in dumb as a rock) moment. ;) We all have 'em. Also, English is my second language. ;) Haha, I love using that excuse, much to the chagrin of any of the white people who know me because they know I speak English perfectly fine. :) It's true, though, most of my gaps in knowledge of little "sayings" like that are due to English being my second language and being raised by parents who never used those terms because English isn't their native tongue either.

boyfriend shorts: abercrombie (way old) similar I'd recommend buying a couple of sizes bigger for the perfect relaxed fit

Anyways, I have finally acquired the PERFECT pair of boyfriend shorts! Purrrfectly baggy, in all the right places, worn in just the right amount, amazingly distressed, AND long! Also, I didn't have to pay a dime for them! Oh, wanna know how I came across such a serendipitous situation? I mentioned to my older sissy that I was in the market for some slouchy and LONG (I'm trying super hard to live up to my standard of modesty this summer) boyfriend shorts and she told me she had a pair of our little sister's shorts sittin' in her closet that she could give me. Well, loan, technically because they aren't really her shorts to give and my little sister will probably be wanting them back when she returns from her mission in Canada. ;) Anyway, my older sissy fished 'em out for me and they are now gloriously in my possession! Also! Since my little sister is a good 5-6 inches taller than me and therefore a couple sizes bigger they've got that perfect slouchy look going on without looking like men's shorts! Also! She kicked her foot through one of the "distressed" holes so often that it's just a plain old hole now, and I LOVE it! It gives them that "not trying too hard" worn in look! These will be my new summer staple! Also, I'm in love with this look. I love mixing and matching uber casual pieces, like this plain white tee, boyfriend shorts, and trucker hat, with more structured/feminine pieces like this blazer, layered necklaces, and heels! It's a fun contrast! Oh, and side note, this is the most perfect plain white tee that I have EVER own. It's soft, the v-neck is perfection, and the boyfriend fit is slouchy without being shapeless! Aerie really hit the nail on the head! PLUS, they're all buy one get one free in stores! Score!

Much love!
