Call me Rebecca Bloomwood

{F21: dress similar here & here, denim jacket similar, belt similar, H&M: boots similar}
Oh the glories of shopping! As one Rebecca Bloomwood from Confessions of a Shopaholic would put it, "You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that's what it's like when I see a store. Only it's better." For the past three months I'd been doing SO well keeping my shopping in check. I even did a 30 day no shopping challenge which I briefly blogged about here, here, here, and here! I'd been re-inventing ways to wear "old" things in my closet to keep things interesting. I'd even been digging up old treasures from not only my closet but everyone else in my family's as well to keep things fresh. Yesterday, though, I fell off the bandwagon. My little sister informed me of a mega sale going on at H&M. H&M being one of my favorite stores I obviously HAD to go. At the very least to just go "briefly" check out what they had. I told myself I'd only allow myself to spend $20, because $20 isn't that much and wouldn't put a big dent into my college student budget. Can I just say that I was SEVERELY kidding myself. I walked in and of course everything was just heart achingly beautiful and well...on sale so of course irresistible. I had to just grab everything in sight that I liked. I was having a Rebecca Bloomwood moment. You know that scene in the movie when she says, "A man will never love or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn't fit, you can't exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed. And when your fingers first grasp those shiny new bags...oh yes...oh yes"? I was having a moment similar to that. I do have some self control, though, so out of the MANY things that I grabbed and tried on I only left the store with four. Two pairs of shoes, which were originally $50, and I snagged at $20 (One of those pairs of shoes happens to be the pair I'm wearing in the photos above. Gorgeous right?), a maroon hat, and a pair of gorgeous funky printed pants. Not too bad, eh? Eh?? If I had my way, though, I'd definitely go back tomorrow for this gorgeous wide brimmed hat that was only $7. Alas, I must resist because, although, I only bought four items and I scored mega deals I still spent around $75. Bleh. Well, at least I'm not quite as bad a shopaholic as dear old Rebecca Bloomwood. I can proudly say I don't have any credit card debt, and I've never spent $200 on Marc Jacobs underwear. Although, underwear is a basic human right...so...maybe I should. Ha, just kidding ya! Oh, and on that note, one last quote from good old Confessions of a Shopaholic. "Life is like a swap meet. You never know when great riches...are going to turn up unexpectedly." I hope in way of unexpected great riches my metaphorical swap meet cranks me out the Luke Brandon to my Rebecca Bloomwood.

Much love!

Blast from the past

{Denim jacket//belt: F21, maxi skirt: borrowed, shoes: Steve Madden}
It snowed...again...and again...and again. To keep warm from the snow and simultaneously get creative with this whole shopping diet thing I decided to play search and rescue with this corduroy maxi skirt because what's more frugal than re-using things from the past? It came from the dark ages, otherwise known as my older sister's high school years. Anyway, I remembered it's existence last night and decided to rescue it from the back of the linen closet it was shoved in. I decided I'd rather wear it as a dress so I hiked it up, belted it, and pulled a denim jacket over it. With the snow covering the ground I decided I'd rather not wear heels so I put on my all time favorite flats I got four years ago. I got them for like $10, which is a major steal for Steve Madden's! Four years later they still look totally amazing, plus that bead work is just to die for! Anyway, today I wanted to keep this post short and sweet due to the large amount of homework that awaits me...ugh...homework...I just have to keep reminding myself that I signed up for this and that as nerdy as this sounds I actually love school! How about we do some bullet points of both relevant and random thoughts, kay? Okay.

  • Utah weather is crazy. It dangles the hope of warmth and spring in front of our faces for a couple of days and then it snows for two days straight as if to say, "haha, just kidding!"
  • The baby brother blessed the sacrament in church today for the first time ever. It was awesome.
  • The Walking Dead comes back on tonight. I. Am. Ecstatic.
  • In my household The Walking Dead is a family affair.
  • We gather round the TV and pig out on food while humans get devoured by zombies
  • What screams appetite more than blood and guts right?
  • Clearly I have a television addiction...but who doesn't these days? Right? Right?? Please tell me I'm normal!
  • Don't tell me I'm normal. I'm so not, and I actually kind of like it that way. :)
  • The Grammy's are on tonight but since it's on at the same time as The Walking Dead for the first time in a long time I will not be watching.
  • I never thought I'd say this but tonight zombies take precedence over celebrity fashion and music
Happy Sunday!

1 dress 3 ways!

Hey there homies! ;) As you can see, today a massive snow storm hit! Which is kind of funny because when I took my puppy out on a run this morning the weather felt so nice I considered changing out of my pants and into running shorts! But that's just Utah for you, it can go from a sunny 34 degree morning to a stormy 28 degree afternoon. Anyway, since it was so stormy outside the rest of the photos had to be taken inside and let me tell you, the lighting in churches isn't the greatest!

{dress: F21 old, top: Ross old, shoes: Charlotte Russe, belt: F21}
Today my parents and two younger siblings spoke in their Spanish ward, so Allison and I skipped out on going to our singles ward to hear them speak. Let me tell you, I'm glad we were there! I couldn't have been prouder of my little brother and sister! Since they were born and raised here they never got very much practice at speaking Spanish the way Allison and I did, and it's always been a little bit of a struggle for them, but today they blew it out of the water. Other than a few slip ups, their Spanish was so good! I was one proud big sister! Well, this will be my last post on my little white dress! I feel like making it a goal to actually wear this dress more than once put it to better use. I feel like a lot of the time I'll buy something because I totally love it but then after wearing it once I usually won't wear it again for MONTHS. I loved how forcing myself to wear this dress various times throughout this month forced me to get creative so I didn't feel like I was wearing the same thing over and over again, and because of it I got some really great looks! I even have so many more ideas for different ways to wear it, but for now it will be getting a break. I feel like this last look was my favorite of the three, what do you guys think?

White Dress Round 2!

{Moto jacket: h&m, dress: old, tights: F21, leather booties: Macy's}

Hello everyone! Remember this dress? Do you remember my 30 day no shopping commitment and the commitment I made to actually wear this dress, especially since it'd be the last item I'd buy for the next 30 days? Well, as promised here is the second way I styled this dress for the month! I decided the crisp white of the dress would go perfectly with the deep red of this faux suede moto jacket. Oh, and can I just say that I'm in love with this jacket? I got it at h&m a few months back for a steal! I randomly stopped by h&m one night, and found that they were having a mega sale! I saw this jacket, which was originally priced at $50 and got it for $20! Finally, I added the tights for some extra warmth and color contrast, and the wedge booties to keep my feet nice and toasty while adding some height to my frame! I'm excited for Martin Luther King Jr. Day tomorrow! A day off from classes will be very welcome, AND it'll be pay day!
Well, happy Sunday and happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day tomorrow!

So long, farewell

{Dress//Earings//ring: F21, heels: Gianni Bini}
Hello all! Today was the farewell of one of my very best friends, Marilyn! She's the tall one in the center. We've been friends since she moved into my old neighborhood almost 13 years ago. Wow, I can't believe it's been that long already. I have to tell you, she's one of my favorite people in the world! She's so genuine and funny! She's so unabashedly herself, but not in one of those pushy brutally honest ways. I'll miss her for the next 18 months while she's serving as a missionary in Toronto, Canada but I couldn't be prouder of her. All the same, we had a good time reminiscing on those good old high school days and all of the insane shenanigans we got into!

On to the outfit! I know I promised myself that now that the semester started and I would need to buy all of my supplies I wouldn't buy ANY new clothes...but I caved. I figured, hey I've got a couple of farewell's coming up this month and a few other things so I think I can justify buying this dress...and a couple of other items. I have issues. I really am a shopaholic. BUT, I'm going to work on it. Meagan, over at one of my favorite blogs, becauseofjackie.com, has committed to no shopping for 30 days and I'm committing to joining her! So, no more shopping for this girl for the next 30 days, and I will attempt to purge my closet. Just like Meagan, I need to get rid of anything I haven't worn in the past 6 months. Sounds simple enough right? Wrong. It will be an EXTREMELY hard thing for me to do. I get emotionally attached to clothing. I see it all and think back on the memories I made while wearing it. Plus, when I go through all of my clothing I know I'll just start making excuses and thinking, "welllll...I MIGHT need to wear it again so it should stay". On top of being a shopaholic I'm also apparently a hoarder. Anyway, since I bought this dress with the excuse that I would be wearing it A LOT this month I'm committing to actually doing so, and I'll post the different ways I styled it this month!

Happy Sunday!
